Tool design is an important aspect of production. The cost of manufacturing and the final product is greatly influenced by tool design. It is a subset of manufacturing engineering that entails the study, planning, design, development, and use of tools, methods, and procedures to boost manufacturing productivity. The design of machine structures, which are made up of structural members and machine elements, as well as connections linking the structural members and machine elements, has an impact on static stiffness and dynamic properties. No matter how well a tool works or makes parts, its value is questioned if it costs more to build than it saves in manufacturing. A tool is also of no use in production if it cannot maintain the appropriate level of reproducibility from one part to the next.



 This book outlines the processes and applications of tool design in detail. It gives deep insights into the different concepts and methods used in this field. It covers various aspects of tool-design methods, tooling materials, design of cutting tools, and gage design. It discusses clamping methods, design of drill jigs and design of fixtures. Geri Burkett pursued her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Public Research University, Sheffield. She is an Adjunct Professor at University College, Camerino. Her elementary areas of scholarly interests lie in the fields of subtractive manufacturing, advanced engineering design, automatic control and grinding operations. Burkett has been an eminent speaker in seminars across Europe, United States of America, Canada, and Middle Asia. She has contributed numerous book chapters and research papers on mechanical system, drafting & mechanical drawing.
