As manufacturing technology advances, we've witnessed significant advancements in machine design and mechanical engineering ingenuity and complexity. In today's production world, machine elements that formerly seemed inconceivable have become ubiquitous. While we all want to be at the forefront of innovation, we can also use existing technologies to get us started. The principles of machine design are divided into three categories: adaptive design, developmental design, and new design. In the mechanical industries, machine design is the single most significant task. Product design, whether done in-house or outsourced, has a significant impact on a company's success or failure. Manufacturing expenses and profit margins are decided here. Even the best production facilities are useless if a product's design is flawed from the start.

This book attempts to understand the multiple branches that fall under the discipline of machine design and how such concepts have practical applications. It is a compilation of chapters that discuss the most vital concepts of this field. It deals with manufacturing considerations in machine design, simple stresses in machine parts and engineering materials. It also focuses on variable stresses in machine parts, pressure vessels, welded joints, screwed joints, riveted joints and pipe joints. Such selected concepts that redefine this subject area have been presented in this book. The various subfields along with technological progress that have future implications are glanced at in it. Those with an interest in the field of machine design would find this book helpful. 


 

Hobert Mckay is a Senior Lecturer at Technical Institute, Melbourne. He holds Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Science University, Dunedin. His interests include machine design, internal combustion engines, tribology computer aided design and engineering processes. He has written several articles and research papers on robotic system, machinery and production engineering in international journals. He has received many prizes in his academic career in the field of mechanical engineering.
